Those who follow our blog will know that I planned on entering a couple of entries myself, which I did. Sadly there was only a single prize and no entrants badges like there is for Golden Daemon, so I came away completely empty handed (apart from now having several very nicely painted miniatures in my collection!).
The names of the painters were not included on the labels, so if one of these was yours, please feel free to shout up and give us a bit of background on how you painted them as us Dads are always interested as well as keen to improve our own skill.
There were only 3 cabinets of entries, which was a pretty small number, so photographed nearly every one in the end.
Start with my own three entries. I'll post more about these later in the week as part of my progress report. I overheard some guys joking about the size of my plinths. Admittedly they are little on eth large size but I really couldn't be bothered to cut them down further the night before the event.
It was interesting seeing Angron in red armour.
Similarly it was nice to see Sigismund in black and white. These events are great for seeing alternative colour schemes and adding fresh perspectives to classic miniatures.
This guy eventually won the trophy, but fair play. It's a bit miniature, painted well and with the addition of flashing LEDs.
I really liked this conversion of Garro.
Again, I really liked this conversion too.
I loved the claws on this one.
As I say, get in touch if one of these beauties is yours and tell us more about it!
Dave
Nice reporting Dave, I think that looked like a worthy winner. Was there just one winner? Seemed like lots of different entries and a nicely painted Warlord is always going to win against the best painted character model so surely there were other winners, honourable mentions even?
ReplyDeleteThe standard of painting looked exceptional, and I like those new display cases, enables you to get right around the model, although they look tricky to place your figures in?!
IT was billed as an open competition with just one winner. But to be honest there was only a few entries compared to other GW painting comes, probably the same number as that tanks comp they held.
ReplyDeleteThe standard was pretty high, glad I put my minis in early on as I might have chickened out later! :-)
It was tricky to place the figures, the lighting in those cases can be a bit inconsistent, so some minis looked awesome and some were sat in the dark
My plan is to try again for the HH golden daemon in February, planty of time to prepare
DeleteCheers for sharing the pictures, some lovely models and ideas there. Shame about your own work but that was a tough looking field of minis to go against.
ReplyDeleteIt was but it was great to be a part of it and really motivated me to raise my game
DeleteHi, the Knight-Scion and two more are my entrys. I will try to answer all questions you have
ReplyDeleteMate that is a really nice mini. I was really drawn to the metallic purple you used, how did you achieve that?!
DeleteWhat was the most difficult thing about putting that beast together and painting it?
Not the big Knight, the pilot;) The guy in blue with the orange hair;) + the Triaros and a dwarf. But you can see pic's of my knights on instagram :)
ReplyDelete@steffschiff
Ah man sorry, I don't really know my knights :-)
DeleteThat guy in the blue is really cool tho (I wouldn't have taken a photo otherwise), that blue is quite vivid, what did you use for that?
The base color is Adriatic Blue from scale75. I used a glaze made of Medium Blue from Vallejo to shade it. Highlights are just adding white to the base color.
ReplyDeleteCool. That obviously gives good results, thanks for sharing
DeleteDave try this link, some nice advice and resources in Golden Daemon skills ....
