Four dads update - What have we been up to?

It's been over a month since our last post on the blog which is a poor show really from us dads so firstly we must apologise, but then we must justify ourselves too!!

Sometimes in dad land life gets in the way a little more than when you are single or are attached with no children. This is part of the reason why we began the blog with 4 of us contributing rather than just have 4 separate blogs - at least one of us would be posting to keep the blog updated regularly. Unfortunately for the last couple of months time has been pressed for all of us here at dad HQ:

- Rich has been covering the job of his boss and is jet setting all over the world so doesn't even know what time it is let alone when he blogged last.
- Steve has been consumed with work and his twins who are getting bigger and more mobile - the last I saw of Steve he was packing his guard army up to go into storage!!! (don't worry he still has about 18 other armies!).
- Dave has been out and about with his son doing Mr Tickle activities (!?)

but has been hobbying and playing the most and has actually started his own blog too with its sole focus on his love of 30k Space Wolves.
- James has been tied up at work and is in exam season whilst now teaching in 3 different special schools plus as a scout leader has been caught up in preparing for and running camps at weekends.

All of these factors plus the fact that we all have children with their own activities has really put a dampener on our hobby activity recently. The best we have is from Rich and Dave:

Rich has been working on a centrepiece model for his army and a new dreadnought:

First Rich had to cut the Dread up to get the pose right ready to paint.

Also Rich managed to choose a base for his centrepiece and weather the hell out of him!! One of the questions Rich asked during the process was about the power sword. He painted it on the left with highlight tones at either end and was thinking about leaving it. Lucky for him the dads managed to convince him to reverse the process on the other half of the sword giving it a much more reflective and cool look. We like it, what do you guys think?

Dave has made some progress on his army but we'll hopefully see a proper update soon. Other than that he has recently purchased these cool smoke and explosion markers. £2.50 each apparently. Anyone else use these?

So there you have it, a short update on our busy lives. The one thing for sure is that we are massively excited about the new edition of 40k. Wow the build up has been immense and the new rules we have had a taster of seem amazing! As a dad I sincerely hope that we can get back to playing 2000 points in a couple of hours. I may even play more!!!

All the best
James

  2. Glad you made it back to the keyboard! Even I have been finding time to catch up on the rules updates sparse!

Good to see there is still life in the blog though and that progress is being made!

  3. Thanks guys, we really appreciate it. We are still hungry for the hobby and generally we chat about it everyday on our whatsapp group however an hour to write a post is sometimes impossible!!
Thanks for sticking with us and I agree Rory, Rich has made a good job of that sword - much better than my efforts with lightning!!
